Red Rose

Can't resist posting this one too. I like it. I took this in my mom's garden this evening too. I really struggle to take photos of red flowers, they end up having this shine/glare to the edges of the petals, and I have no idea how to stop it. There wasn't even any sun shining on this flower today.

I love how all you see are petals :)

Hi Jenty
When I photograph roses they are never photogenic. I have your problem when photographing blue flowers.
What I have taken to doing is either bracketing the shots or refucing the F stop to let in less light and so cut the glare.
A more simple solution is to use a UV filter
I imagine that your camera will let you play with the settings.

Thanks Max, glad to know I'm not the only one :). I use a fancy point and click, not a DSLR, so there's only so much I can change on the settings especially when I'm doing a macro shot.

Such a beautiful macro. I love the petals and how soft they look! Cindy at Rosehaven Cottage

Hi Jenty, I see your point. My other trick, on a really bright day is to let my body cast a shadow over the subject. Primitive but it works

Can your camera use a filter? Sometimes they make adapters for the P&S cameras, and then you can put the filter on the adapter. A polarizer works great in cutting the glare - you can see it disappear as you turn the filter. Be sure to get a circular one, not a linear one.

Your rose is beautiful!

I'm sure it can KML, or rather, I've heard I can get filters for it. Sounds like I need to get one.

I think it came out very well

I like the way the larger petals are in focus whereas the middle is out of focus, I think you captured it very well!!!
