My dad, sister, brother, me and the boys flew to Cape Town yesterday for the day so that we could visit my grandparents in Hermanus. My grandad is very ill, and when my dad said he was going to see them, we all said we HAD to go too. I wanted him to meet Connor and see Bradley again.
It was a VERY long day. In a nutshell... 2 hours flight there, 1 hour drive to Hermanus, 1 1/2 hour drive back, and 2 hour flight again... with 2 kids... it was a looooong day. But the 2 1/2 hours that we spent with them was more than worth it, and in fact, long enough for him (but not for my grandmother). By the time we left we all noticed how tired he'd got. Anyhoo, here are some of the photos I took.
This is by far my favourite photo of the day. It's not the best ito photographic skills, but I love it. Connor relates to people so much faster than Bradley ever did, and he was sharing chips with my grandad (which I think meant the world to him because they had a "moment")

And here's more for you

Hermanus is the most beautiful town. It's on the coast close to Cape Town, and is known for the whales that come to the bay every year. It's not quite whale season yet but that didn't stop us walking to the cliff path to see if we could spot one (And I had to get some of the energy out of the kids before we headed off for the airport again).

The end of a long day
My only regret was that I didn't get a photo of my dad with his parents. I only thought about it last night when I was proofing the photos.

Wow, all of them are incredibly stunning!
ALl of these are awesome but my fave is sharing! How awesome that you captured that moment :)
That first one really touches me!
I love the light on the hands, it's perfect!
But they're all great pictures, Jenty and I mean that!
Just lovely, all of them, especially the first and the dasies. The hands....its like the spark of life being passed between them.
Oh Jenty!
They are all so lovely. So telling, so beautiful.
That first one says so much to me.
I hope these will become a special memory for you.
Ah, this one is a tear jerker! I can just FEEL the emotion in the little hand and the big hand. That one just captivates my heart.
Another FAB post!!
I love the set. I actually have tears in my eyes. I lost both my father and grandmother within 3 months about three years ago. My 6year old son remembers them, but my daughter is 3 1/2 and was too small to remember. Pity you didn't get the family pic with your dad and his parents. I am trying hard to get those kind of pic now that I realise how few I have of my dad and gran.
On a different note, I really like the daisies pic.
Wow, Jenty, this touched my heart. I'm so glad your boys got to go see your grandparents. XOXO
Oh that first shot IS amazing. I just love it!
I'm so glad you had a good day...

The Hands photo made me want to cry.....beautiful.
The first one is by far and away my favorite - it is so beautiful.
I also really like the bench -wish I was there right now!
Jenty, The only words that come to mind right now after looking at this series of photos and getting a sadly awaited call myself this morning is THANK YOU!!! You have a great eye and talent and I love that you are able to share that with all of us! You captured so much of a story in the photos that movies cant catch.
Thank you for sharing!
Lovely pictures. The first one is just absolutely stunning.
Have a great week!
My post...
Absolutely stunning photos Jenty, I wouldn't be able to find fault with any of them!
((hugs))
such lovely photos- I'm sure they loved seeing everyone. Wal is heading to Cape Town again soon and I'm trying to convince him that Squidge and I just HAVE to come. Everytime I see photos of the area it just looks sooo beautiful.
Jeanette those are all beautiful!
I love the first two shots and "Trying to Spot Whales." They're all great, but those are my favorites.
What a long day! But such amazing photos. Precious moments captured with your grandparents, and beautiful scenes from your time there!
All of the natural shots are stunning, truly, but it's the first ones that really were powerful enough to make me tear up a bit. Precious doesn't even seen like strong enough a word, but something along those lines. Beautiful shots, all, and I'm sorry that grandpa is ill.
Oh Jenty the first shot is simply beautiful.. I was/am really touched by that shot..beautiful..
All of your pictures are beautiful but that first one is really nice!
what beautiful shots! thanks for visiting my blog!
Wow. You outdid yourself this week. They are amazing pictures that I really enjoyed.
Sharing is beautiful. I love the contrast of young & old.
Great shots. They are all so nice but there is something so nice about the Sharing shot. I love the contrast.
Jenty, your photos are always so beautiful! All are really fabulous, but that first one grabs me and doesn't let go.
On a kind of funny note... the one of Elaine on the cliff path? Check out the clothes I'm wearing in this photo: Swinging'
Isn't that bizarre? :-)
Jenty, these are so powerful. That hand shot just is mesmerizing. You MUST frame that on - or put it on a canvas. Well done.
I love your portraits. And the bench shot is... wow. I want to sit there for a very long time.
wow girl! You got some great ones. I love love love the ones of the boys by the water. stunning!
Thanks everyone. Mamageek, I think I will, I like the canvas idea.
