Our house through Bradley's eyes

Every two weeks Bradley brings his artwork home from school. This picture was in his bag today. According to Bradley, this is what the picture is about... it's our house... it's starting to rain... there's grass, and 2 flowers... one is dead and the other one is a rose :)... there's a tree and 2 ladders just in case you need to pick the apples off the tree. Cute hey?f

We worked really late this evening. There's a new office block going up next to our building and I took these photos this evening as the sun was going down.

This is a very well used wooden mortar and pestle that my mom got in Zimbabwe from a craftsman.

Hay bales and power lines

I took this on the way home from Parys today. I think it's the perfect picture to sum up the current power crisis in South Africa. You can faintly see the power lines in the distance.

There have been many jokes in the recent weeks about how South Africa will be plunged into the dark ages if Eskom doesn't do something fast about the power problems we're having. We have power cuts almost on a daily basis and for hours at a time, because there's no capacity. It's not funny actually, because productivity in all industries is falling drastically and there's going to be a serious impact on the economy very soon.

Old doorway

This old weathered door is behind the stables at the farm where Bradley rides. I just had to take a photo of it. I love the look of it, with the overgrown creepers and the time-ravaged bottom.

Photohunt: Narrow

Connor looking at the rain and listening to the thunder through the narrow bars of the security gate. We had a sudden downpour this afternoon after a stinking hot morning, hopefully this is going to cool the weather down a bit.

Security gates have 2 purposes. One being to keep unwanted's out (very important in South Africa), and the other to keep toddlers from crawling in the rain ;). For both purposes, the most effective security gates have narrow gaps between the bars.

Baby steps

Connor is so close to walking on his own. He's got up to taking 2 steps before lunging forward, and I managed to get some photos of him trying to walk with my dad this evening.
